Godzilla is the most recognized, most talked about monster in Japan and in the world...I think that the decision to make all these movies was a good one! Godzilla as a symbol of all the childhood fun we have had differs very much from the Godzilla that is a symbol of the horrors of nuclear war and atomic destruction...we need to remember that even now, it would be very easy to annihilate ourselves. We must not let this happen! |
Next to Godzilla, stands Rodan! I gave Rodan an 8 not a 10 because he stands in Godzilla's cinematic shadow! Nevertheless, Rodan is also a symbol of the way nature kicks back when mankind tries to tamper with her, and so I also gave Rodan a high score. |
Mothra is one of the best monsters I have seen Toho come up with. She has a heart of gold when it comes to defending the world. Naturally, as a Christian, I get a bit uncomfortable watching parts in movies where Mothra is being worshipped, but I also know it's only fiction, so I have a tendency not to get upset. Still, when the Cosmos sing, I get goose bumps! |
King Kong isn't originally Japanese, nor is he a Toho monster....but still, because he was in a couple of Japanese movies (one with Godzilla) I like to mention him. I think that the area in the life of Kong that gets him in the biggest trouble is those pesky little male hormones....haha! Whenever Kong shows interest in a human female, all the human males object and so poor Kong ends up getting shot (except in the Japanese films....at least Toho was nice enough to let him live!) I think his BEST film was the first, 1933's KING KONG, despite the "dancing fur" and other cheesy special effects! |
King Ghidora is the best enemy Toho has come up with. I think it's because he came on the scene early in Godzilla's career, or because of his great power that Ghidora is so popular. Still, Toho could have given him arms....or couldn't they? |

Death Ghidorah 3Those jerks down at Toho sound FX dept. are really getting sloppy. Death Ghidorah sounds almost exactly like a herd of pissed off elephants. And all he does is walk around the forest blowing up trees. How boring!Dagahra 2.7 Dagahra, which appears in Mothra 2, is simply a Destroyah clone, but possesses killer starfish. BLEAUGH!!!! King Ghidorah 10 This is the King Ghidorah that appeared in Mothra 3. This is the most wonderful incarnation I've yet to see of everyone's favorite beast.... especially because this one likes to eat annoying Japanese children for lunch. |

This is Godzilla in his newest incarnation. It is different enough from the other designs to lead me to believe that it is a cousin of some sort. Notice that the face has more of a vicious, raging expression, and the back plates are absolutely satanic looking! However, this Godzilla is not terribly bright. It simply wades through mortar fire heavy enough to penetrate its thick hide and blow scales all over the place and it sticks its head in its foes mouth at its behest. |
Orga (G2K) 7
To be fair, I thought I would include Orga in this section. The design on this creature resembles little more than the Rancor from Star Wars; however, one interesting feat that it attempts is that it tries to swallow Godzilla whole, like a boa constrictor. What it didn't count on was Godzilla letting loose on its innards with a super-powerful hypernuclear blast. This mistake proved to be a fatal case of heartburn for Orga.
