To Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich and all at Centropolis:
I know you probably would come to expect a lambasting by now for having "changed Godzilla" and "made him lay eggs" but you're not going to get that here. I just wanted to express my support for the project you have undertaken.
I have been a fan now for a long, long time... twenty years, and I'm only going to turn twenty four here in a few months' time! I grew up with such oldies (but goodies) as, "Ghidrah the Three Headed Monster", "Terror of MechaGodzilla", "Son of Godzilla" and "Destroy All Monsters". I even saw "King Kong Vs. Godzilla!" The only problem was, we had no VCR in those days, and these movies were never on often enough to suit me.
So up until I was about 11, I was "in dormancy" so to speak. An occasional late night movie would come on, and I'd watch it. But that was it.
I remember very clearly the excitement that overtook me when "Godzilla 1985" hit the theaters thirteen years ago. After having seen it, I could think of little else!! I thought about it for weeks...months...years!!!
I guess maybe it was fate that I should become one of the major Webmasters to host a "Godzilla" site. =)
Unfortunately, I never saw any more films come out after that. How I missed that!
I know what you are doing is a MAJOR task and it is not to be taken lightly. First it was Tomoyuki Tanaka, Eiji Tsubaraya and Inoshiro Honda that brought these creatures to life, and now that baton has passed to you. I know that you will do your absolute best. I have faith in you! And anyway, I don't imagine you could possibly do any worse of a job on "Godzilla" than you did on "ID4" or than Toho has done with their 22 movies in the past.
I guess I just want to recapture that sense of excitement and novelty that comes with seeing a brand new Godzilla film in the theater. And even if my kids don't share that same sentiment, well then I want it anyways! ;-)
And as for my fellow G-Fans, I'm sure they are interested in seeing you do a good job on our Lizard King, even if a few of them write you letters that sound less than supportive. =) As for me, I will do everything I can to cooperate in the publicizing of this new flick, even lending you a spot on my web site if you care to use it.
I just wanted to express my 100% support and to thank you for what you are doing. If you like, please e-mail me at conniegn@microlink.net with any replies. =)
